Mental Health Awareness (MHA)

This course enables the participants to identify the importance of health and wellbeing in the workplace, the impact and prevalence of mental health disorders and dispelling the myths commonly associated with mental ill-health within society, and understand the barriers to sustainable employment.

Learning outcomes:

  • To develop an understanding of the impact of current legislation for employee's mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, including The Equality Act (2010).
  • To understand of the prevalence of mental ill-health within society and the workplace.
  • To gain an understanding of the definitions of mental health and the spectrum of mental ill-health.
  • To attain the knowledge of how the social model of disability informs on social inclusion and a holistic approach to interventions and treatment of mental ill-health.
  • To be able to identify the empowerment of appropriate and inclusive language and behaviour.
  • To gain knowledge of the impact of stigma and discrimination for people with mental health issues.
  • To be able to identify anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, self harm, bipolar and post traumatic stress disorder and other prevalent mental ill-health conditions.
  • To gain an insight into the prevalence and causes of suicide.
  • To be able to identify the symptoms, causes and interventions of mental health conditions.
  • To gain the confidence to support clients or colleagues who may be experiencing mental ill-health.
  • To be able to apply the principles learnt throughout the course into a personal action plan.
